What It Does

Join the 17 million customers who use Mailchimp, the world's largest marketing automation platform, to develop their e-commerce marketing strategy. With the official Mailchimp for WooCommerce integration, your customers and their purchase data are automatically synced with your Mailchimp account, making it easy to send targeted campaigns, automatically follow up with customers post-purchase, recommend products, recover abandoned carts, and measure the ROI of your marketing efforts. And it's completely free.

This plugin allows you to sync to your Audience in Mailchimp with purchase data. You can sync new subscribers to your Audience when they create an account and opt-in. Set up marketing automations to remind customers about items they left in their cart or viewed on your site, win back lapsed customers, and follow up post-purchase. Showcase product recommendations and track and segment customers based on purchase history and frequency.

View detailed data on your marketing performance in your Mailchimp Dashboard. Find new customers, connect with current ones, and drive them all to your website with Facebook and Instagram ads. Then, set up Google remarketing ads to turn your site visitors into shoppers. Automatically embed a pop-up form that converts your website visitors to subscribers.

Add discount codes created in WooCommerce to your emails and automations with a Promo Code content block. Create beautiful landing pages that make it easy to highlight your products, promote a sale or giveaway, and grow your audience. This plugin is WPML compatible.

This plugin supports our most powerful API 3.0 features, and is intended for users who have not yet integrated their WooCommerce stores with Mailchimp. You can run this new integration at the same time as your current WooCommerce integration for Mailchimp.

Comparing to Alternatives

Mailchimp for WooCommerce sits in a crowded field of email marketing connectors for WooCommerce, competing with both direct Mailchimp-focused plugins and integrations for rival ESPs. Many alternatives promise simpler setup or more reliable subscriber sync, which matters given the recurring complaints about this plugin's behavior.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Official Mailchimp-built integration with deep WooCommerce data sync (orders, products, abandoned carts)
Free to use with a large, established user base
Handles automation triggers like abandoned cart emails natively
Widely adopted, so documentation and community troubleshooting threads are plentiful

Weaknesses

Subscriber sync logic has documented bugs that can unsubscribe legitimate customers
Support responsiveness and moderation practices have drawn sharp criticism
Two known medium-severity vulnerabilities in past versions

User Sentiment Analysis

With 725 ratings, the plugin holds a 4-star average, but the distribution reveals a polarized user base: nearly 70% give it 5 stars, while almost a quarter of all reviewers (24.8%) leave 1 or 2 stars. This split suggests the plugin works smoothly for many but fails significantly for a vocal minority, often around subscriber management and support quality.

Positive highlights

Many users rate the plugin 5 stars, reflecting satisfaction with its core Mailchimp-WooCommerce sync for the majority of installs
Users who don't encounter the subscriber bugs report it as reliable core functionality for e-commerce email marketing
The free official integration is valued for connecting store data directly to Mailchimp without added cost

Common complaints

Persistent admin banner falsely indicates the account is not connected (batman36)
Contact list limits reduced unexpectedly, causing frustration over value for money (uvve)
Built-in test email/automation feature does not work, confirmed by support (eddio)
Plugin disconnects intermittently and resends emails to all customers (ltcoffice)
Support quality has declined significantly over time (blocke)
Bug causes subscribers to be automatically unsubscribed without a real unsubscribe event (Ben Andersen, orjan.steffensen)
Reports of unhelpful or dismissive support, including deleted forum comments (Ben Andersen, orjan.steffensen)

Weaknesses

Recurring, unresolved bug where genuine subscribers get silently unsubscribed
Support experience described by multiple users as poor or dismissive
Two known medium-severity vulnerabilities (SQL Injection and SSRF) in older versions, both since patched

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Store owners already committed to the Mailchimp ecosystem who want a free, official way to sync WooCommerce orders and customers, and who are comfortable troubleshooting occasional sync quirks themselves.

Not ideal for

Merchants who rely heavily on accurate subscriber counts for compliance or revenue, or who need dependable customer support when issues arise. Given the documented subscriber-unsubscribing bug and past medium-severity vulnerabilities (now patched), users should ensure they run the latest version and monitor list health closely.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The plugin is entirely free and provides full integration between WooCommerce and a Mailchimp account, including order sync, product data, customer segmentation, and abandoned cart triggers, dependent on the user's own Mailchimp plan limits.

Final Verdict

Mailchimp for WooCommerce remains a widely used, free way to connect store data with Mailchimp, and the majority of its 725 reviewers are satisfied. However, the near 25% share of 1-2 star reviews points to a real and recurring problem: a subscriber-sync bug that can silently unsubscribe genuine customers, compounded by user reports of unhelpful or dismissive support when raising the issue.

Combined with two past medium-severity security vulnerabilities (both fixed), prospective users should weigh the convenience of an official integration against these documented reliability and support concerns. Those with strict list-hygiene or compliance needs may find more peace of mind trying alternatives like MC4WP or Omnisend Connect, while casual users comfortable monitoring their subscriber data can still get solid value from this free plugin.

FAQ

Customers are subscribed to your Audience when they opt-in at checkout or when an account is created. If an account is created through the standard WooCommerce My Account page, they must opt-in to be added.
Customers are sent to your Audience as Transactional if they do not opt-in. This is done so you can send abandoned carts or order notifications.
If double opt-in is enabled, customers will only be subscribed to your Audience if they approve the subscription from the confirmation email that is sent.
