What It Does

Optimization Detective is a plugin designed to enhance page performance by utilizing real user metrics. It captures essential data about the elements displayed on your site across various devices, including desktops, tablets, and phones.

This plugin acts as a framework dependency and does not offer optimization features by itself. For optimization functionality, users are encouraged to install the Image Prioritizer and Embed Optimizer plugins, among others from the WordPress Core Performance team.

The plugin does not have any settings or user interface, as it operates without configuration. To collect real user metrics, your site must have the REST API accessible to unauthenticated visitors. Currently, it does not collect metrics from Safari due to limitations in supporting the Largest Contentful Paint metric, but support for Core Web Vitals is expected soon.

For more detailed information, please refer to the full plugin documentation, which includes a technical introduction, filter/action hooks, and examples of extensions.
