What It Does

301 Redirects helps you manage and create 301, 302, and 307 redirects for your WordPress site to improve SEO and visitor experience. This plugin is easy to use and perfect for new sites or for repairing links after reorganizing your old content. It helps avoid sending visitors to 404 error pages by creating redirections instead.

The 404 error log allows you to identify problematic links and create new redirections. The plugin's GUI can be found in the WP Admin under Settings, and a 404 Error Log widget is available on the WP Admin Dashboard.

The features include the ability to choose from pages, posts, custom post types, archives, and term archives to create redirections. You can also set custom destination URLs, retain query strings, and enjoy super-fast redirection. The plugin includes a 404 error log, a widget, an import/export feature for bulk redirects management, and simple redirect stats to monitor usage.

If you need more features, the WP 301 Redirects PRO version offers wildcard and regular expression URL matching, auto-typo fixing in URLs, a complete redirect and 404 log, link scanner, and a centralized dashboard to monitor redirects across multiple sites.

Comparing to Alternatives

301 Redirects – Redirect Manager competes in a crowded field of redirect and 404-handling plugins. It stands out for its simplicity and CSV import feature, but faces stiff competition from more established tools with cleaner security track records.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Straightforward, easy-to-learn interface praised by many casual users
CSV bulk import makes fixing large numbers of broken links fast
Includes a 404 log to help identify which redirects are needed
Dropdown selection for pages/posts simplifies setup without manual URL entry

Weaknesses

Two past critical vulnerabilities (SQL Injection and Arbitrary Redirect Injection/XSS/CSRF) raise long-term security concerns
Some alternatives like Redirection offer more robust, actively-audited feature sets with a stronger security reputation

User Sentiment Analysis

With 578 ratings and an overall 4.7/5 average, sentiment is strongly positive—nearly 88% of users give 5 stars. Only 6.7% of reviews fall into the 1-2 star range, suggesting most users find the plugin reliable for everyday redirect management, though a vocal minority report real frustrations.

Positive highlights

"I had about 70 broken links, and was able to upload and fix them in one upload. This plugin works very well." — [email protected]
"Simple yet effective. Paid version offers a lot more." — paulbp
"It is fairly simple in its (free) functionality, but it works well and is easy to use. I like the 404 log..." — Jorgen Winther
"Very helpful when our site structure changed to a primary website with subdomain AMS..." — cjacksoncoop
"no setup needed and easy to use — love being able to select end pages, posts, etc from the dropdown" — Anonymous

Common complaints

Redirects stop working intermittently and require repeated resets (denl)
Incorrect redirect construction that appends the old URL query string to the new target URL instead of replacing it (danielkoepf)

Weaknesses

Two critical-severity vulnerabilities recorded in past versions, including SQL Injection and CSRF/XSS issues
Some Pro users report post-update breakage affecting hundreds of existing redirects
Reliability issues reported by a small but notable subset of users despite overall high ratings

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners needing a simple, no-fuss redirect manager for occasional use—especially those migrating content, cleaning up broken links via CSV import, or wanting a basic 404 log to inform redirect decisions. Its dropdown-based setup suits non-technical users.

Not ideal for

Larger sites or agencies managing complex redirect rules at scale, or anyone prioritizing a strong security track record, should be cautious given the plugin's history of two critical vulnerabilities. Users needing rock-solid reliability after updates may also want to consider alternatives, based on reports of redirects breaking unexpectedly.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version covers core 301 redirect creation, CSV import for bulk fixes, and a 404 error log to help identify broken links—enough for most small sites' basic needs.

Pro version (49 - 149 USD / year)

According to user reviews, the paid version adds enhanced sorting and more automated redirect operation, though specific pricing tiers aren't detailed in available data. Some Pro users have reported update-related issues affecting existing redirects.

Final Verdict

301 Redirects – Redirect Manager earns strong user goodwill through simplicity, ease of use, and handy features like CSV import and a 404 log. The overwhelming majority of reviewers rate it 5 stars, citing reliability and straightforward setup for everyday redirect needs, though a small number report frustrating breakage or logic errors in how redirects are constructed.

However, its security history—two critical vulnerabilities involving SQL injection and CSRF/XSS—can't be ignored, especially given how many well-regarded alternatives like Redirection and Safe Redirect Manager exist without similar records. For casual users on smaller sites, this plugin remains a solid, low-friction choice; but those with higher security stakes or complex redirect needs should weigh the alternatives carefully before committing.

FAQ

A redirect is a simple way to re-route traffic coming to a Requested URL to different Destination URL.

A 301 redirect indicates that the page requested has been permanently moved to the Destination URL, and helps pass on the Requested URLs traffic in a search engine friendly manner. Creating a 301 redirect tells search engines that the Requested URL has moved permanently, and that the content can now be found on the Destination URL. An important feature is that search engines will pass along any clout the Requested URL used to have to the Destination URL.
