What It Does

Experience a better way to translate your WordPress site and go multilingual, directly from the front-end using a visual translation interface.

TranslatePress is a WordPress translation plugin that anyone can use. The interface allows you to easily translate the entire page at once, including output from shortcodes, forms, and page builders. It also works out of the box with WooCommerce.

Built the WordPress way, TranslatePress - Multilingual is a GPL and self-hosted translation plugin, meaning you'll own all your translations, forever. It's the fastest way to create a bilingual or multilingual site.

Translate all your website content directly from the front-end, in a friendly user interface with real-time translations. Fully compatible with all themes and plugins, it offers a live preview of your translated pages as you edit them.

Automatic translation support is available through TranslatePress AI Free, with a limit of 2,000 AI words. Integrates with Google Translate, allowing unlimited automatic translations using your own Google API key.

It features a fully customizable language switcher, image translation support, and editorial control for publishing translations. The plugin also supports translating dynamic strings added by WordPress, plugins, and themes.

Users with administrator rights can select the default language, choose language display options, and enable or disable automatic translation via Google Translate.

TranslatePress - Multilingual has a range of premium add-ons that allow you to extend its functionality, including full access to TranslatePress AI, extra language support, SEO pack, and more.

Comparing to Alternatives

TranslatePress operates in a crowded multilingual plugin market, competing with both automatic translation services and manual translation management tools. Its visual front-end editor is a key differentiator against many competitors.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Visual front-end editor lets users translate content directly on the page, no coding required
Generous free version supporting two languages out of the box
Works well with page builders like Brizy according to user feedback
No invasive JavaScript injection, keeping performance impact minimal for basic use
Intuitive machine translation integration alongside manual fine-tuning

Weaknesses

Translation credits in paid tiers can be consumed quickly, even on low-traffic sites
Multi-language support beyond two languages requires a paid upgrade, which some longtime users see as a removed feature
History of frequent security vulnerabilities suggests the codebase needs vigilant patching

User Sentiment Analysis

With 1,654 ratings and an overall score of 4.7/5, sentiment is overwhelmingly positive — 87.5% of reviewers give five stars. Only 5.6% of ratings fall into the 1-2 star range, and recent reviews echo this, frequently praising ease of use and the front-end translation experience.

Positive highlights

zahidbadr calls it 'Very easy, yet powerful' and highlights how the visual front-end editor saves significant time
cmcnavod describes it as 'One of the best plugins I used to build multilingual websites', praising its machine translation and custom element features
guillaume69 says it's 'Multilingual hassle free' and appreciates that the pro version's SEO features work perfectly with no coding needed
getploret writes a detailed review noting the free version alone makes a multilingual future 'feel much less complicated' for growing sites
hykazmi notes it 'Works out of the box, without any complicated setup' for direct on-page translation

Common complaints

Unexpectedly fast consumption of translation credits even on very low-traffic sites, despite paying for premium
Poor or nonexistent customer support outside of community forums, with an unreliable money-back guarantee
Perceived removal of a previously free feature (support for more than two languages), now locked behind a paid subscription
Concerns about poorly optimized code causing site slowdowns

Weaknesses

A notably high number of recorded vulnerabilities (11), including several high-severity unauthenticated XSS and account takeover issues patched only recently in 2026
Frequent security patches required suggest a codebase that has struggled with recurring XSS and injection flaws
Credit-based pricing model can feel restrictive or unpredictable for small-site owners

Who Should Use This?

Best for

TranslatePress suits WordPress users who want an intuitive, visual way to build multilingual sites without touching code, especially those using page builders like Brizy. It's a strong fit for site owners needing straightforward two-language support for free, or those willing to pay for SEO and automatic translation extras.

Not ideal for

Site owners who need more than two languages without paying, or who are sensitive to security risk given the plugin's history of high-severity vulnerabilities, should proceed cautiously and ensure they always run the latest patched version. Those wanting predictable pricing without credit-based limitations, or robust direct customer support, may also be disappointed.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version supports translation into one additional language, includes the visual front-end editor, and lets users manually translate content without coding — a solid starting point praised by many reviewers.

Pro version (89 - 249 EUR / year)

The paid tiers unlock support for multiple additional languages, automatic translation via credit-based machine translation services, SEO Pack features for multilingual URLs and metadata, and other add-ons. However, some users report that credits are consumed quickly and that a previously free multi-language feature has since been moved behind the paywall.

Final Verdict

TranslatePress earns strong overall sentiment thanks to its accessible visual editor and solid free tier, making it a popular pick among reviewers building multilingual WordPress sites without coding. However, complaints about fast credit depletion, weak customer support, and a feature shift from free to paid status are worth noting for budget-conscious users.

The plugin's security history is a genuine concern, with 11 recorded vulnerabilities including several high-severity, unauthenticated XSS and account takeover issues patched as recently as late 2026. Prospective users should keep the plugin rigorously updated and weigh this risk against its usability strengths and the many capable alternatives available in this crowded space.
