What It Does

Upload any custom fonts to give your site an elegant look. Easily change fonts without CSS knowledge or select from 23,871+ predefined fonts to add to your site, including Google fonts stored on your server.

Use Any Font lets you install custom fonts in your WordPress website. Unlike other font embed services, it doesn’t limit your font choices or store your custom fonts on a remote server. Upload any font format and our font uploader auto converts it to woff2 for faster load times and compatibility across all browsers.

With our easy-to-use font uploader, you can seamlessly add custom fonts and manage your site’s typography. The plugin supports self-hosted and GDPR-compliant solutions, ensuring your fonts are SEO-friendly and quickly embedded with @font-face.

Comparing to Alternatives

Use Any Font sits in a crowded category of custom font tools, competing with both locally-hosted uploaders and Google Fonts managers. Its long track record and huge install base set it apart, but the API key system it relies on is a point of friction compared to simpler, license-free alternatives.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Long-standing plugin with a very large, mostly satisfied user base
Simple workflow for uploading and applying custom fonts without touching code
Works reliably for straightforward single-site font needs
Well known within the WordPress ecosystem, reducing learning curve for many users

Weaknesses

Relies on an external API key system, which has caused activation problems for some users
Has a documented history of security vulnerabilities, including a high-severity CSS injection issue
Newer local-hosting alternatives avoid the API key dependency entirely

User Sentiment Analysis

With a 4.7/5 average from 1,149 ratings and nearly 89% five-star reviews, sentiment toward Use Any Font is strongly positive overall. The 5.8% one-star share is notable but concentrated on a specific set of grievances rather than broad dissatisfaction.

Positive highlights

"This just works – I have used it several times, great value for money!" — Anonymous
"Use Any Font works perfectly, letting you do exactly what it's name implies." — vindic8r
"Use any font is a standard install on all my websites... It always works." — Jamuhroo
"This plug-in has worked great for my site. Lets me stay on-brand." — chillwriter
"Eklenti başarılı güzel olmuş" (the plugin turned out great) — malimali

Common complaints

Difficulty recovering or activating an API key through the developer's portal
Paying for the premium version but not receiving a working API key, with unresponsive customer support

Weaknesses

Past vulnerabilities including a high-severity unauthenticated CSS injection flaw
Multiple CSRF-related security issues fixed only in later versions
API key dependency creates a single point of failure for premium functionality

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Users who want a quick, no-code way to upload and apply custom fonts to a single WordPress site, and who are comfortable managing an API key for activation, will likely find Use Any Font dependable based on the overwhelming majority of positive reviews.

Not ideal for

Agencies managing multiple client sites or premium purchases should be cautious, given reported issues with API key delivery and support responsiveness. Security-conscious users should also ensure they run the latest version, given the plugin's history of medium and high-severity vulnerabilities.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version allows uploading and applying a custom font, covering basic branding needs for a single site without cost.

Final Verdict

Use Any Font has earned its strong reputation through years of reliable service for straightforward font customization, reflected in its high overall rating and loyal user base. However, the API key activation system is a recurring pain point, and the plugin's history includes a high-severity CSS injection vulnerability alongside CSRF issues, all since patched but worth noting for security-conscious site owners.

For simple, single-site use cases, it remains a solid, well-tested choice, but users wanting to avoid third-party key dependencies or seeking a more modern local-hosting approach may prefer alternatives like Local Fonts Uploader or Custom Fonts – Host Your Fonts Locally. Weighing the strong sentiment against the security history and occasional support frustrations, this plugin is best suited for lower-stakes projects rather than mission-critical client work.

FAQ

Currently, we accept ttf, otf, woff, and woff2 font formats, but you only need to upload the font in one format; other necessary formats for browser compatibility are automatically generated by our font converter. Font files up to 25MB are acceptable. However, we recommend using smaller ones whenever possible, as the font file size directly affects your site’s load time.
