Comparing to Alternatives

CoBlocks operates in an extremely crowded field of Gutenberg block libraries. While it built a reputation for a clean, no-bloat approach to block editing, many alternatives now offer more frequent updates and broader feature sets.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Simple, focused block collection without excessive feature bloat
Well-designed blocks that integrate cleanly with many themes
Easy to use for straightforward page and post building
Popular carousel and gallery blocks add practical layout options

Weaknesses

Update cadence appears to have slowed, raising abandonment concerns among users
Lacks the active development and feature pace of competitors like Kadence Blocks or Spectra
No premium tier to fund ongoing development compared to actively monetized alternatives

User Sentiment Analysis

With 108 ratings averaging 4.3/5, CoBlocks skews heavily positive (75% five-star), but a notable 15.7% of reviewers left 1-2 star ratings, pointing to a vocal minority frustrated with support and maintenance issues.

Positive highlights

"Finally! A plugin that does what it says and doesn't try to cram in extra features I'll never use" — area9
"Really makes creating pages and post customization a breeze!" — Dave Brown
"It's great addon for standard blocks" — Nikola Kob

Common complaints

Plugin appears abandoned, with no support responses for over six months
No updates released in a long time, fueling concerns about long-term viability
Automatically loads Google Fonts from fonts.googleapis.com, raising GDPR/DSGVO compliance concerns for EU users
Blocks are not properly mobile-responsive
GoDaddy hosting integration reportedly causes sites to be accidentally set to discourage search engine indexing

Weaknesses

History of 8 recorded vulnerabilities, mostly Contributor+ stored XSS issues, though all have been patched
Multiple reviewers report stalled development and unanswered support requests
GDPR-related font loading behavior may concern privacy-conscious users

Who Should Use This?

Best for

CoBlocks suits users who want a lightweight, no-frills set of Gutenberg blocks for basic page building, particularly those already using GoDaddy-hosted WordPress sites where the plugin is often pre-installed.

Not ideal for

Not ideal for users needing active support, frequent updates, or strict GDPR compliance, given reports of stalled development, unresolved mobile responsiveness issues, and past stored XSS vulnerabilities patched across multiple versions.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free plugin provides a curated set of Gutenberg blocks including galleries, carousels, and layout blocks, offering solid value for simple page-building needs without any paywalled features.

Final Verdict

CoBlocks earns solid praise for simplicity and ease of use, reflected in its strong 4.3/5 rating from satisfied users who like its focused block set. However, a meaningful share of reviewers report stalled updates, unanswered support tickets, and GDPR-related concerns around automatic Google Fonts loading, suggesting the plugin's active development may have slowed.

With eight historical vulnerabilities—mostly patched Contributor+ stored XSS issues—and no premium tier funding continued maintenance, CoBlocks faces stiff competition from actively developed alternatives like Kadence Blocks, GenerateBlocks, and Spectra. It remains a reasonable choice for simple, low-maintenance sites, but users prioritizing long-term support and security should weigh the more actively maintained alternatives first.
