Comparing to Alternatives

Burst Statistics competes in a crowded privacy-focused analytics space alongside self-hosted and cookieless tools. It stands out for storing data locally in your WordPress database rather than relying on external servers, appealing to users who prioritize data ownership over third-party dashboards.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Data stays on the user's own server, appealing to privacy-conscious site owners
Simple, clean dashboard that non-technical users and clients find easy to understand
Quick setup with minimal configuration required
Strong WooCommerce integration for tracking store performance
Real-time stats and goal tracking praised by reviewers

Weaknesses

Free version omits some data points like country of origin and detailed device breakdowns
Has a notably troubled security history compared to some competitors, including a critical CVSS 10 vulnerability

User Sentiment Analysis

With a 4.9/5 average across 183 ratings and 94% five-star reviews, sentiment toward Burst Statistics is overwhelmingly positive. Only 2.7% of reviews fall into the 1-2 star range, suggesting broad satisfaction with ease of use and privacy features, though a small number of users flag limitations in the free tier.

Positive highlights

"All data stays on my own server, and the dashboard shows exactly the insights I need" — Ubaida
"Simple, clear, just what I need... a breath of fresh air after spending hours twiddling with GA" — Joe Whittaker
"An analytics plugin I can actually explain to clients... integration with WooCommerce is excellent" — anguskeystone
"Quick to setup, use and yet powerful enough to get the stats you need" — Dinz
"Just works out of the box... gives us plenty to analyse" — stichtingbonartz

Common complaints

Free version lacks country-of-origin tracking
Free version only shows the top device/system rather than percentage breakdowns
No option to view stats directly in the WordPress admin top bar

Weaknesses

Free version is seen by at least one reviewer as too limited for deeper analytics needs
Security track record includes a critical authentication bypass vulnerability (CVSS 10) patched relatively recently
Multiple past high-severity SQL injection and XSS vulnerabilities suggest a pattern requiring cautious patching practices

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Burst Statistics suits site owners who want a privacy-friendly, self-hosted analytics solution with a clean, easy-to-read dashboard—particularly small business owners, agencies managing client sites, and WooCommerce store operators who need straightforward reporting without relying on Google Analytics.

Not ideal for

Users needing granular free-tier data like country-level breakdowns or full device percentage stats may find the free version restrictive. Given the plugin's history of serious vulnerabilities, including a recent critical account takeover flaw, security-sensitive site owners should ensure they update promptly and monitor patch releases closely.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version offers self-hosted, privacy-friendly analytics with a real-time dashboard, basic visitor stats, and goal tracking, all stored within your own WordPress database without relying on external services.

Pro version (39 - 119 USD / year)

The Pro version typically expands on the free offering with more detailed visitor data such as country of origin, fuller device and browser breakdowns, advanced e-commerce/WooCommerce reporting, and additional dashboard customization options.

Final Verdict

Burst Statistics earns strong user praise for its simplicity, privacy focus, and self-hosted approach, with a 4.9-star rating reflecting genuinely satisfied users across small business, church, and agency contexts. The free version covers essentials well, though a few users find its data granularity lacking compared to paid tiers or more feature-rich alternatives like Matomo or WP Statistics.

The main caution is security: the plugin has accumulated five known vulnerabilities over time, including a critical CVSS 10 authentication bypass fixed only recently in 2026. While the developers have consistently patched issues, this history warrants that users keep the plugin updated diligently. For those comfortable managing updates promptly, Burst remains a compelling, easy-to-use alternative to Google Analytics.
