What It Does

WhatsApp Chat for WordPress allows your customers to click a button and open a conversation from your website directly to your WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business phone number. This plugin includes a WhatsApp button where you can include a pre-set message, which will be automatically the first message in the conversation.

WhatsApp is the most popular instant messaging application in the world, available in over 100 countries and supporting more than 50 languages. Offering easy access from your website is a good way to convert visitors into customers. Generating leads is key to business success, and the Social Chat button can help increase your overall sales.

With the Social Chat button, visitors can send a message directly to your phone number. You can customize the button's layout, position, text, and default user message. The plugin also allows you to include a contact box with additional information and a personalized message.

The premium version offers features like multiple team member agents, custom welcome messages, and integration with Google Analytics. You can also display the WhatsApp button on WooCommerce product pages to prompt users to send custom messages.

Comparing to Alternatives

Social Chat competes in a crowded space of click-to-chat and floating contact button plugins. It stands out for its high rating and large user base, but faces stiff competition from many similarly-focused tools offering multi-channel support.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Very high overall rating (4.9/5) across a large number of reviews
Simple, lightweight setup praised repeatedly by users
Responsive support team frequently highlighted in reviews
Proven track record with long-term users reporting consistent results

Weaknesses

Some users report increasingly aggressive upsell prompts in newer versions
A documented pattern of making deactivation difficult in at least one recent version
Fewer built-in multi-channel options compared to some alternatives like Chaty

User Sentiment Analysis

With 692 ratings and a 95.2% five-star share, sentiment is overwhelmingly positive. Only 3.2% of reviews fall into the 1-2 star range, but the complaints that do exist are pointed and specific rather than vague.

Positive highlights

"Support was great and fixed it" — FuturityWeb
"I am very happy that I am really talk to someone who helped me" — lenievanderzande
"Picked up a lot of contact moments with potential guests" — prontocampi
"The support team is absolutely amazing, they reply in hours" — gpierini
"By far this is the best one" — Temptation

Common complaints

Difficulty deactivating the plugin, with one user describing a hidden 'skip & deactivate' link as a dark pattern
Poor support experience reported when trying to deactivate or remove the plugin

Weaknesses

A medium-severity stored XSS vulnerability affected versions before 8.6.3, requiring contributor-level access to exploit
An older low-severity stored XSS vulnerability existed before version 6.0.5
Reports of deactivation being deliberately obstructed raise trust concerns for a subset of users

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Small business owners and site builders wanting a simple, quick way to add a WhatsApp click-to-chat button without complex configuration. Its high satisfaction rate and strong support reputation make it a solid choice for straightforward chat button needs.

Not ideal for

Users who are cautious about plugins with a history of security vulnerabilities, however patched, or who have previously encountered friction when trying to disable or remove plugins. Those needing built-in multi-channel chat (beyond WhatsApp) may prefer alternatives like Chaty.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version offers core WhatsApp click-to-chat button functionality, easy setup, and has satisfied the large majority of reviewers without requiring upgrades.

Pro version (30 - 90 USD / lifetime)

A pro version is offered, typically expected to include advanced customization, additional triggers, analytics, or multi-agent support, though specific premium feature details were not detailed in user feedback.

Final Verdict

Social Chat earns its strong 4.9-star reputation through simplicity, effective results, and notably responsive support — qualities repeatedly praised across hundreds of reviews. The 3.2% negative share is small, but the complaints within it, particularly around deliberately obstructed deactivation, are serious enough to warrant caution and echo concerns about the plugin's recent update behavior.

Security history adds a further layer of scrutiny: two stored XSS vulnerabilities have been identified and fixed over the years, including one as recent as version 8.6.3. Given the many capable alternatives in this space, users should ensure they're running the latest version and weigh the deactivation complaints against the plugin's otherwise strong track record before committing long-term.
