AI-assisted site setup that speeds up the initial build process
Consistently praised, responsive support team
Strong integration with the Astra theme and Spectra plugin ecosystem
Long track record and huge active install base, indicating reliability and ongoing development

Best results often require pairing with the Astra theme and Spectra, which can feel like vendor lock-in
History of multiple security vulnerabilities, some rated high severity

User Sentiment Analysis

With a 4.9/5 average from 4,746 ratings, sentiment is overwhelmingly positive — 97.6% of reviewers gave 5 stars, and only about 1% left a 1 or 2 star review, suggesting very high overall satisfaction.

Common complaints

Weaknesses

WPScan records show a history of 8 vulnerabilities, including two rated high severity (arbitrary file upload and stored XSS)
Several medium-severity CSRF and SSRF issues have been reported over time, though all have been patched
No recent 1-2 star reviews were available to identify specific ongoing complaints, which limits insight into current pain points

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Ideal for freelancers, agencies, and site owners who want to launch a polished WordPress site quickly using pre-built Elementor or Gutenberg templates, especially those already using or open to using the Astra theme and Spectra plugin for a fully integrated workflow.

Not ideal for

Less suitable for users who need airtight, zero-history security assurance without any patched vulnerabilities, or those who prefer a completely independent theme/page-builder stack without any ecosystem dependency. Sites with many low-trust contributor accounts should ensure the plugin is kept fully updated given its history of contributor-level exploits.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version offers a substantial library of ready-made templates and page/block patterns for both Elementor and Gutenberg, along with AI-assisted setup tools, making it easy to build a complete site at no cost.

Pro version (49 - 149 USD / year)

Paid tiers (via Astra Pro / Essential Toolkit bundles) typically unlock premium template packs, advanced customization options, priority support, and deeper integration with the Astra theme and Spectra addon, aimed at users building more complex or client-facing sites.

Final Verdict

Starter Templates enjoys an excellent reputation, backed by a huge volume of near-universally positive reviews that consistently praise both the template quality and the responsiveness of support. With virtually no negative review data to draw from, user sentiment strongly favors this plugin as a dependable choice for quickly building WordPress sites.

The main caveat is a notable security history, with eight recorded vulnerabilities including two high-severity issues, though all have been resolved in updates. Combined with a very competitive alternatives landscape, this plugin remains a strong pick for most users as long as it's kept updated promptly, particularly for those already invested in the Astra ecosystem.
