What It Does

Reorder By Term is a developer tool designed for those familiar with menu_order and custom queries. It serves as an add-on to Reorder Posts and requires Reorder Posts 2.1.0 or greater.

By default, WordPress does not allow reordering posts within a term. While some plugins offer term ordering, they often create custom tables or modify core tables, which can lead to sustainability issues with future WordPress updates.

This plugin utilizes custom fields, enabling you to reorder posts by term within each taxonomy and post type, providing great flexibility.

Upon installation, you will need to build the term data, which may take time depending on the number of posts and terms. However, you can limit the build process to specific post types and taxonomies if you wish to exclude regular blog posts.

Key features include a convenient build-terms tool, automatic modifications of term data upon saving posts, and the ability to reorder based on post type, taxonomy, and term.

FAQ

For the plugin to work, there must be the correct custom fields present for each post you want reordered by term. Since this data doesn’t exist natively, we must build this data.

The build process should only have to happen once, so start the build, get a cup of coffee, and then start reordering your posts by term.
