Honeypot Anti-Spam is an anti-spam plugin for WordPress that helps protect comment forms using the honeypot technique.
The honeypot technique means that if you install Honeypot Anti-Spam, you will not need to include a bothersome captcha in your WordPress. This is because honeypot is completely invisible to the visitor.
The honeypot anti-spam technique consists of a hidden field that is inserted via javascript into the forms. A legitimate visitor will never see this field and therefore will not fill it out. In contrast, spam bots detect and fill this field, causing the comment or submission to be classified as SPAM immediately.
Honeypot Anti-Spam has no options or settings. To make it start working, you just need to install and activate it. Nothing more.
Installation is simple: Install and activate the plugin from the WordPress dashboard, and that's it! You do not have to do anything else.
Frequently asked questions include whether the honeypot technique is effective against spam. Yes, it is effective against bots, although it does not work against manual spam. However, in 99.99% of cases, spam is done automatically by bots.
It does not affect the normal functioning of WordPress and is transparent. In very rare cases, some plugins may have issues with the javascript used to insert the honeypot field, but this happens very rarely.
Honeypot Anti-Spam is not compatible with other commenting systems like Disqus or wpDisquz.
