Security patches have been reactive, meaning users must stay diligent about updating promptly

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners who want a no-fuss, reliable way to generate an XML sitemap without wading through complex settings or paying for premium SEO suites. It suits users who value simplicity and a long history of community trust over a feature-rich dashboard.

Not ideal for

Security-conscious administrators managing sensitive or high-traffic sites may want to verify they're running the latest version given the plugin's history of authorization and cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in older releases. Those wanting integrated SEO tools beyond sitemaps should also look elsewhere.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The entire plugin is free and includes full sitemap generation, WordPress dashboard integration, and automatic updates to search engines—there are no locked features or premium tiers.

Final Verdict

XML Sitemap Generator for Google earns its strong reputation through sheer simplicity and consistency—users across languages and use cases praise how easily it gets the job done without complication. The near-total absence of negative reviews reinforces that this is a dependable, low-maintenance tool for its core purpose.

The main caveat is its security history: four known vulnerabilities over the years, including medium-severity issues, mean users should always run the latest version. Given there's no direct alternative to weigh it against and the plugin remains free with active fixes, it's a solid recommendation for most WordPress sites as long as updates are kept current.
