What It Does

The German Slugs plugin helps in creating proper slugs by transliterating umlauts and the letter ß in titles. This is particularly useful for German language sites where WordPress may not automatically handle these characters correctly.

When creating a post or page, WordPress suggests a permalink based on the title. By default, it converts characters to lowercase, replaces spaces with hyphens, and removes diacritics. However, for German, the conventional transliteration is necessary, changing ä to ae, ö to oe, ü to ue, and ß to ss.

This plugin automates the process, saving users from the hassle of manually correcting slugs each time they change a title. It is especially beneficial for those who frequently update their content.
