What It Does

Complianz is a GDPR/CCPA Cookie Banner plugin that supports various privacy regulations, including GDPR, ePrivacy, and CCPA. It features a conditional Cookie Consent Banner and a customizable Cookie Policy based on the results of the built-in Cookie Scan.

The plugin allows you to configure a Cookie Notice specific to your region, including the European Union, United Kingdom, United States, and more. You can customize the cookie consent settings per subregion and use various banner templates that comply with accessibility guidelines.

With automatic configuration based on wizard questions and WordPress scans, Complianz blocks third-party cookies and provides proof of user consent. It also includes periodic cookie scans to detect changes in cookies and integrates seamlessly with popular plugins and services.

Comparing to Alternatives

Complianz is a widely used GDPR/CCPA consent solution with no close direct competitor identified in this category, so the comparison focuses on its own strengths and shortcomings rather than head-to-head rivals.

Automated cookie scanning and categorization that simplifies compliance setup
Free tier that covers core consent banner functionality for smaller sites

Multi-region support for GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy frameworks

Weaknesses

Recurring reports of slow or unresponsive premium support
History of update-related bugs affecting live sites
Marketing emails perceived as excessive by some multi-site users

User Sentiment Analysis

With 1,656 ratings and an overall score of 4.7/5, sentiment is overwhelmingly positive—over 90% of reviewers gave 5 stars—though a vocal minority (5.7% at 1-2 stars) report serious support and reliability frustrations.

Paid licence buyers unable to resolve account access or purchase issues
A pushed update reportedly introduced a coding error that crashed a user's site for hours
Perceived dark-pattern marketing emails that continue despite opt-out attempts
Frustration that pricing/paid nature isn't clearly stated upfront in the plugin description
Refund requests reportedly going unfulfilled

Update quality control has been questioned following at least one site-breaking release

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners needing an automated, wizard-driven cookie consent and compliance solution—especially those on a budget who can use the free tier, or premium users comfortable troubleshooting independently rather than relying heavily on support.

Not ideal for

Agencies or businesses managing multiple sites who are sensitive to marketing email volume, users who need fast and reliable premium support, or those wary of installing plugins with a history of multiple patched vulnerabilities, even though fixes were issued promptly.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version provides automated cookie scanning, a consent banner wizard, and core GDPR/CCPA compliance tools, making it a genuinely usable option for solo developers and smaller sites without ongoing cost.

Pro version (49 - 199 USD / year)

The premium edition adds expanded regional compliance coverage, additional customization, and access to dedicated support—though several reviewers report that this paid support has been slow, automated, or difficult to reach when problems arise.

Final Verdict

Complianz earns strong overall satisfaction, with the vast majority of users praising its automated cookie detection, ease of setup, and solid free tier. However, a consistent thread among negative reviews highlights unreliable premium support, occasional update quality issues, and unwanted marketing emails—concerns that matter more for paying customers expecting responsive service.

Its security history includes nine patched vulnerabilities ranging from stored XSS to SQL injection, all resolved but worth noting for security-conscious admins. With no direct alternative listed, Complianz remains a reasonable default choice for cookie compliance, particularly for free-tier users, though premium buyers should set realistic expectations around support responsiveness.
