What It Does

This plugin enhances the built-in Categories metabox and Block Editor sidebar panel by allowing users to replace the standard checkboxes with radio buttons or a select drop-down menu. This provides a more streamlined and user-friendly interface for selecting categories.

With the Categories Metabox Enhanced plugin, you can change the metabox to a single term UI, apply this UI to other hierarchical taxonomies, and configure each taxonomy independently. Options include setting the type of selection method, priority, position of the metabox, and more.

The plugin ensures that the single-term selection is enforced across all areas where posts can be saved, including the Classic Editor, Block Editor, Quick Edit, and Bulk Edit. This consistent enforcement helps maintain the integrity of category selections throughout your WordPress site.

FAQ

Yes. WordPress’s Quick Edit and Bulk Edit forms render their own checkbox UI for hierarchical taxonomies and the plugin doesn’t override that markup, so those forms still let you tick more than one box. The single-term invariant is preserved server-side: when the form is submitted, the plugin’s set_object_terms listener detects the multi-term commit and coerces the post to the last selected term. The same behavior applies to REST API writes and any programmatic wp_set_object_terms() call.
