What It Does

FileOrganizer is a lightweight and easy-to-use file management plugin for WordPress. Organize and manage your WordPress files with FileOrganizer without any control panel or FTP access. You can access, upload, download, edit, delete, zip, cut, copy, and paste files even outside the WordPress root directory.

FileOrganizer supports all file operations on a remote server such as creating files or directories, uploading, downloading, renaming, and copying. It features easy drag-and-drop file transfer, a built-in editor for editing code and files, and the ability to create or extract archives with one click. The plugin also supports previews for common file types and is responsive for use on tablets and smartphones.

With a built-in search feature, you can easily find your files. FileOrganizer offers both icons and list views for easy navigation and displays thumbnails for image files. It includes common keyboard shortcuts, a rich toolbar, and calculates the size of directories. You can retrieve file or directory information by right-clicking a file.

Comparing to Alternatives

FileOrganizer competes in a crowded field of WordPress file management plugins. While it earns strong user praise for simplicity, several established alternatives offer similar or broader functionality with potentially more mature security track records.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Simple, intuitive interface praised by many users
Direct file access from WP dashboard avoids need for hosting panel or FTP
Supports role-based access restrictions
Free and functional for basic file management tasks

Weaknesses

History of multiple high-severity vulnerabilities, including arbitrary file upload issues
No premium version to fund more dedicated ongoing security investment
Broad file system access (not limited to upload folder) raises risk if admin credentials are compromised

User Sentiment Analysis

With a 4.8/5 average from 48 ratings and over 91% five-star reviews, sentiment toward FileOrganizer is overwhelmingly positive. Only 2 of 48 ratings fall in the 1-2 star range, and there are no formal negative reviews on record, suggesting most users are satisfied with day-to-day usability.

Positive highlights

"Wonderful interface to use" — oxalissdigital
"This works really well and makes updating files very easy" — ianj001
"Wonderful application, user friendly with no bugs" — fhussa
"Brilliantly simple... solid, reliable and effective" — Ruben G.T.
"Good to have a direct access from WP to your website files on the server" — waiyes

Common complaints

Weaknesses

Plugin has a documented history of six known vulnerabilities, including a critical arbitrary file upload flaw (CVSS 9)
One reviewer (Nico, 3★) flagged that the plugin's broad file system access is risky if admin accounts are compromised
Security risk score of 7.17/10 signals a concerning pattern of past flaws despite fixes being issued

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Users who want a straightforward way to browse, upload, and manage website files directly from the WordPress dashboard without touching FTP or hosting control panels. It suits site owners who value simplicity and have already applied the latest security patches.

Not ideal for

Not ideal for security-conscious administrators or sites with multiple user roles, given the plugin's history of high-severity vulnerabilities including arbitrary file upload and file inclusion issues. Sites where admin accounts could be at higher risk of compromise should be especially cautious, since the plugin allows access beyond just the uploads folder.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version offers full core file management functionality, including browsing, uploading, and organizing website files, plus role-based access restrictions, directly from the WordPress admin area.

Final Verdict

FileOrganizer earns strong praise from its user base for being simple, intuitive, and useful for day-to-day file management directly within WordPress. With a 4.8-star average and almost no negative reviews, real-world satisfaction appears high, and the free-only model makes it accessible without upsells or paywalls.

However, the plugin's security history is a serious concern, with six known vulnerabilities including a critical arbitrary file upload flaw patched only recently. Users should ensure they're on the latest version and weigh this risk against more established alternatives like File Manager or Filester, particularly on sites where security is a top priority.
