What It Does

Broken Link Checker by AIOSEO helps ensure that all links on your website are functioning properly. This tool is essential for website owners and managers, allowing you to detect and fix broken links quickly and easily. Keeping your website's links healthy improves the browsing experience for your visitors.

This plugin operates as a SaaS, meaning it is hosted on AIOSEO's servers. This approach prevents your server IP from being blocked and avoids unnecessary upgrades due to increased resource usage. With this plugin, your website's performance remains unaffected while you have access to the latest version of the service.

When installed, you can register for a free account that includes scanning up to 200 internal links, which renew monthly. If you exceed this limit, you will be upgraded accordingly. The plugin monitors all internal and external links, providing detailed reports on their status.

Features include granular control over which post types and statuses to monitor, the ability to exclude certain URLs, and automatic scheduling of checks. This ensures that your website is always up-to-date and functioning smoothly.

Comparing to Alternatives

Broken Link Checker by AIOSEO competes in a crowded field of internal linking and link-monitoring tools. While it carries the trusted AIOSEO name, some users may prefer alternatives with simpler setup or no billing requirements.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Backed by the well-known AIOSEO team with responsive support
Clear, detailed reporting on broken links and their exact locations
Easy to install and simple to use for basic link auditing
Includes recheck functionality to confirm fixes

Weaknesses

Requires credit card details and account creation to use, unlike many free alternatives
Occasionally flags valid, working links as broken
Usage limits (e.g. 250 links) may trigger unexpected charges

User Sentiment Analysis

With a 3.9/5 rating from 83 reviews, sentiment is largely positive but notably polarized — 66.3% gave 5 stars, while 24.1% gave just 1 star, pointing to a divide between happy long-term users and those frustrated by billing or accuracy issues.

Positive highlights

"Fonctionne très bien. RAS" — missnath
"Had an issue... within a couple of days Mir Md and the rest of the team gave me a fix" — education5866
"Very concise and clear and thorough with any and all broken links on your website" — tkrose24
"Helped me find and fix several broken links, as intended" — frostdeer
"So fast and simple to install you just can't go wrong!" — 1ekreg1

Common complaints

Plugin frequently flags valid, working links as broken even after rechecking
Requires a credit card to use the 'free' plugin, which is not clearly disclosed upfront
Automatic charges triggered after adding a card, even before running a check or exceeding limits
Requiring a phone number to create an account, causing some users to abandon the plugin entirely

Weaknesses

Three known medium-severity vulnerabilities (SQL Injection and arbitrary post trashing) affecting versions prior to 1.2.7
Requiring account creation, credit card, and sometimes phone number creates friction and distrust for a supposedly free tool
False positives on broken link detection undermine core plugin functionality for some users

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners already using AIOSEO or comfortable providing account and billing details who want a well-supported, detailed broken link auditing tool with responsive customer service.

Not ideal for

Users wary of providing credit card or phone information for a nominally free plugin, sites with tight link-checking accuracy needs, or admins on older versions who haven't patched the SQL Injection and authorization vulnerabilities found in versions prior to 1.2.7.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version allows broken link scanning and reporting up to a certain link limit, along with a recheck feature, but requires creating an account with credit card details, which some users find intrusive for a tool marketed as free.

Final Verdict

Broken Link Checker by AIOSEO earns strong praise from many users for its clarity, ease of use, and responsive support team, reflected in a majority 5-star rating share. However, a substantial 24% of reviewers left 1-star ratings, largely driven by frustration over required credit card and account details for a tool billed as free, plus real accuracy concerns with false-positive broken link reports.

Prospective users should also weigh the three medium-severity vulnerabilities patched across recent versions, making it essential to stay updated. Given the availability of alternatives without billing requirements, this plugin is best suited to those already trusting the AIOSEO ecosystem and willing to accept its account requirements in exchange for solid support and detailed reporting.
