What It Does

Upload PDF files and embed them directly into your site's posts and pages. It works as simple as adding images! Your PDF files will be automatically sized to their natural size and shape. You can also specify a width and the correct height will be calculated automatically. Our PDF Embedder plugin is fully responsive, so the embedded PDF will also look perfect on any device. Additionally, the pdf embedder will automatically resize whenever the browser dimensions change.

The plugin has a unique method for embedding PDF files with immense flexibility over the appearance of your document. The PDF viewer has Next and Previous buttons to navigate the document, and zoom buttons if some areas of a PDF file are too small for your screen.

Your PDF files are embedded within your existing WordPress pages so we have full control over appearance, and all Javascript and other files are served by your own server. This means your PDF files will load fast, without any speed penalty.

In the free plugin, there is no button for users to download the PDF, but download options are available in the Premium versions along with other awesome features. Another Premium feature is that hyperlinks in your PDF are clickable, which is not available in the free version.

The free version will work on most mobile browsers, but cannot position the document entirely within the screen. Our PDF Embedder Premium plugin solves this problem with an intelligent 'full screen' mode. This opens up the document so it has the full focus of the mobile browser, allowing users to navigate without distractions.

Comparing to Alternatives

PDF Embedder sits in a crowded field of PDF display tools, ranging from simple iframe wrappers to full flipbook and document-conversion suites. Its focus on straightforward, reliable embedding without flipbook gimmicks sets it apart from many rivals.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Simple, no-fuss setup that works out of the box without registration
Fast, reliable rendering across browsers and devices
Long track record with years of consistent, dedicated development
Clean display that shows full PDF pages without awkward scrolling windows
Works well via both shortcode and block editor

Weaknesses

Lacks flipbook or page-turning effects offered by some competitors
Historical vulnerabilities suggest a need to keep the plugin diligently updated

User Sentiment Analysis

With 519 ratings and an overwhelming 88.8% at 5 stars, sentiment toward PDF Embedder is decidedly positive. Only 5.4% of reviews fall into the 1-2 star range, and notably no 1-2 star reviews were found in the recent negative review sample, suggesting isolated or older complaints rather than a persistent pattern.

Positive highlights

"Simple, elegant and gets the job done well. Thank you for your dedication to this plugin" — mtoc54
"Works perfectly straight out of the box" — heathenjimmy
"The best plugin I have found to display a PDF as the full page... and it is FAST at rendering" — wimorrison
"Used it on a customer site... non-techies are able to add new songs to the website with this easy to use plugin" — EigenWijsheid
"Files PDF display correctly without extra complications across different browsers and mobile/desktop" — kaurov

Common complaints

Weaknesses

Three known vulnerabilities have been recorded historically, including medium-severity stored XSS and information exposure issues
Users on outdated versions prior to the various fixes could have been exposed to real security risks

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners who need a fast, dependable way to embed PDFs directly on pages or posts without complicated setup will appreciate this plugin. It suits musicians, small businesses, educators, and non-technical users who just want documents to display cleanly and quickly.

Not ideal for

Users seeking flipbook-style page-turning effects or advanced document conversion features should look elsewhere. Given the plugin's history of vulnerabilities, sites that cannot keep plugins consistently updated, or that allow untrusted contributor-level users, should apply updates promptly and evaluate the associated risk.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version provides solid, functional PDF embedding with fast rendering, shortcode and block support, and no registration required, making it usable for most standard needs right away.

Pro version (35 - 125 USD / year)

A premium version is available offering additional features such as enhanced viewing options and expanded functionality beyond the core embedding experience, appealing to users who want more control and support.

Final Verdict

PDF Embedder earns its strong 4.7-star reputation through simplicity, speed, and reliability, with users repeatedly praising how easily it works straight out of the box. The near absence of recent negative reviews reinforces that most users find it does exactly what they need without complication, and the availability of a pro version adds appeal for those wanting more.

The main caution is the plugin's history of three documented vulnerabilities, including medium-severity issues affecting older versions, so staying current with updates is essential. For users who prioritize simple, fast PDF display over flipbook effects and who maintain good update hygiene, PDF Embedder remains a trustworthy, well-regarded choice among its many alternatives.

FAQ

We have instructions and a Knowledge Base on our website explaining common setup queries and issues.

We review the ‘Support’ forum here on the wordpress.org plugin page daily and respond to questions there.

This is possible only in PDF Embedder Premium. As a workaround in the free plugin, you can add a direct link to the PDF beneath the embedded document.

To do this, copy the URL from the pdf-embedder shortcode and insert it into a link using HTML such as this:

<a href="(url of PDF)">Download Here</a>
