What It Does

WP Mail Logging is the most popular plugin for logging emails sent from your WordPress site. Simply activate it and it will work immediately, no extra configuration is needed.

Use this plugin to log all outgoing emails from your WordPress site. If there are any errors when sending the email from your site, our email logs will catch that error and display it to you.

This will allow you to debug and fix your email sending issue.

Our email logs allow you to resend any email that was sent from your site. No more lost emails!

This plugin will allow you to do just that. Our email logs will store every email that is sent from your WordPress site.

You can search and view a particular email log, inspect its content or attachments, and even resend that email.

All emails sent from your WordPress site are logged. And here is the information that is stored: Email Subject, Email Content (HTML or text), Email Attachments, Email Headers (to, from, reply-to, cc, bcc, ...), Error Message (in case there was an error while attempting to send the email), IP Address of originating server (can be enabled in the settings), Date and Time of the email, Receiver (the TO email address).

This plugin does not track delivery after the email is passed to your website host. If you have deliverability issues, we suggest installing the WP Mail SMTP plugin.

Comparing to Alternatives

WP Mail Logging sits in a crowded field of email logging and SMTP plugins. It focuses purely on logging without trying to be an SMTP delivery solution, which sets it apart from bundled tools like Post SMTP, FluentSMTP, or WP Mail SMTP.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Lightweight and focused solely on logging without added SMTP complexity
Displays emails in HTML, RAW, and JSON formats for thorough debugging
Simple, intuitive interface praised by users for ease of use
Long track record of reliable performance across many sites

Weaknesses

No built-in SMTP sending capability, unlike bundled alternatives such as FluentSMTP or WP Mail SMTP
History of multiple security vulnerabilities compared to some competing logging plugins

User Sentiment Analysis

With a 4.7/5 average from 365 ratings, sentiment is overwhelmingly positive—91.5% of reviewers gave 5 stars. The 1-star share (5.5%) is a bit higher than typical for a top-rated plugin, but the section reserved for detailed 1-2 star feedback contained no entries, suggesting these lower ratings weren't accompanied by specific written grievances.

Positive highlights

"It's a lightweight plugin with all the necessary information... very comprehensive and easy to understand" — Marlimant
"Works as expected and that's nice. Very easy to understand and manage" — ricardoborjas
"This email has never let me down after years of use on many websites... great for troubleshooting" — rtc35
"This is a great tool to verify what emails are being sent and to whom... the ability to resend messages has been helpful" — Robert W. Drummond
"Finally got all of my emails into the inboxes of my customers" — nextstyledesigns

Common complaints

Weaknesses

No detailed negative feedback available to identify specific pain points
Security history shows four recorded vulnerabilities, including a high-severity PHP Object Injection issue, meaning timely updates are essential

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners and developers who need a simple, no-frills way to monitor outgoing emails—viewing content, headers, and delivery status—without adding SMTP sending features. It's especially useful during development, debugging WooCommerce or form notifications, and confirming emails are actually being generated.

Not ideal for

Users looking for an all-in-one solution that also handles SMTP delivery (to fix spam-folder issues) will need to pair it with or switch to a plugin like FluentSMTP or WP Mail SMTP. Security-conscious administrators should also ensure the plugin is kept fully updated, given its history of high-severity vulnerabilities in older versions.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version offers full logging functionality, including viewing emails in HTML, RAW, and JSON formats, tracking recipients, subjects, timestamps, and errors, and resending emails—covering essentially everything most users need.

Final Verdict

WP Mail Logging earns its strong reputation through simplicity and reliability, with the vast majority of reviewers praising its ease of use and comprehensiveness for tracking site emails. It does one job well without trying to be an SMTP replacement, which appeals to users who already have delivery sorted and just need visibility into what's being sent.

That said, the plugin's security history—four recorded vulnerabilities including a high-severity object injection flaw—means users must stay diligent about updates. Given the free, focused feature set and lack of a premium tier, it remains a solid choice for developers and site admins, though those wanting integrated SMTP delivery alongside logging should consider alternatives like FluentSMTP or WP Mail SMTP instead.
