What It Does

This powerful plugin allows you to effortlessly reorder posts and custom post types using a simple drag-and-drop interface. You can customize the order directly from the default WordPress post archive list or through a dedicated Re-Order interface, making content organization easy.

The plugin is designed to be user-friendly, ensuring that anyone can utilize its sorting feature without needing extensive WordPress experience. After installation, a new settings page is added under Settings > Post Types Order for easy management.

For advanced features, consider the extended version of this plugin, which offers additional functionalities such as hierarchical post types order, manual drag & drop, and advanced query filtering. It also supports WPML and other plugins, ensuring compatibility across multiple platforms.

Comparing to Alternatives

Post Types Order sits in a crowded field of drag-and-drop ordering plugins, competing with several tools that target similar or more specific reordering needs such as terms, pages, or custom post relationships.

Top alternatives

Strengths

Handles ordering across multiple post types and taxonomies, not just one
Drag-and-drop interface that users consistently describe as intuitive
Strong long-term reputation with a large, mostly positive review base
Clean integration that reportedly works well with AJAX-based filtering setups

Weaknesses

More feature-rich than some lightweight alternatives, which may be overkill for simple page-only reordering
Occasional compatibility issues reported on specific WordPress setups

User Sentiment Analysis

With 296 ratings and an overall score of 4.5/5, sentiment is heavily positive: 83.4% of users gave 5 stars. There is a noticeable but modest 1-2 star cluster (10.1%), suggesting the plugin works reliably for most but not universally.

Positive highlights

"Makes it super easy to edit, and manage posts... everything just works" — cguinn
"I tried several post management tools and this one is by far the smoothest" — sequith
"It has become essential to show my work portfolio in the way I need" — alianur
"It helped me a lot to organize my products... helped me get my filters working with Ajax" — imacreste
"Does exactly what it needs to do. Simple and straightforward" — fredvdp

Common complaints

Plugin did not work correctly on the user's specific WordPress site setup

Weaknesses

A meaningful 8.8% of reviewers gave the lowest 1-star rating, hinting at compatibility edge cases
Limited detail in negative reviews makes it hard to pinpoint specific recurring technical issues

Who Should Use This?

Best for

Site owners and developers managing multiple post types, portfolios, or product catalogs who need a reliable, visual drag-and-drop way to control display order without touching code. It's especially well-suited for those needing ordering to reflect in front-end filters or AJAX-driven layouts.

Not ideal for

Users with highly unusual or heavily customized WordPress configurations, since a small number of reviewers reported compatibility failures. Those needing only basic page ordering may also find lighter, single-purpose alternatives sufficient.

Pricing & Value

Free version includes

The free version offers full drag-and-drop reordering across post types, which most reviewers say fully covers their needs without requiring an upgrade.

Pro version (32 USD / lifetime)

A premium version typically extends functionality with more advanced sorting options, priority support, and expanded compatibility for complex or large-scale sites, though most casual users report satisfaction with the free tier alone.

Final Verdict

Post Types Order enjoys strong, consistent praise for its simplicity, reliability, and clean interface, backed by a solid 4.5-star average across nearly 300 reviews. With zero known vulnerabilities and a very low WPScan risk score, security is not a concern, and the small cluster of 1-star reviews appears tied to isolated compatibility issues rather than systemic flaws.

Given the number of close alternatives available, users should weigh whether they need broad post-type ordering or a more specialized tool for pages, terms, or specific relationships. For most general use cases, though, Post Types Order remains a dependable, well-regarded choice with low risk and solid free-tier value.
