What It Does

This plugin provides a General Settings menu option to define a rel='me' in metatags for the whole site and individual contributors.

The plugin adds a field at the bottom of the General Settings page in the Admin Dashboard, labeled 'Verify Mastodon URL'. This field accepts any valid Mastodon user URL up to three sub-domains deep, such as https://mastodon.social/@user. The plugin does not accept Mastodon addresses in the format @[email protected].

Once a valid URL is saved, a tag containing a rel='me' link pointing to the Mastodon user profile will be added to the site's metadata. If a link to the WordPress instance is included in the user's profile metadata, the Mastodon instance will validate the ownership of the URL and add a green 'verified' banner.

If an Administrator enables the 'Verify Authors' profiles option, a field labeled 'Mastodon URL' will be added to user profile pages under 'contact info'. A rel='me' link will then be added to the metadata on the Author's archive page. If a link to the WordPress Author archive is included in the user's profile metadata, the Mastodon instance will validate the ownership of the URL and add a green 'verified' banner.
